What are 3D TV Glasses?
Ok, here’s a technical bit……
A 3D TV displays two images on your screen at once. The pictures on the screen move far apart from one another to create “far away” depth of field and closer together to appear leaping out of your TV. Movies and TV broadcasts are filmed using special 3D cameras which split the image. Ultimately the two images are reunited on your screen and this tricks your brain into beleiving you are seeing three dimensional images.
Your 3D TV glasses or active shutter glasses, also known as liquid crystal shutter glasses, use the behaviour of liquid crystals to become opaque when an electric charge is applied. Your 3D TV sends out wireless data to your active 3D TV Glasses, this data coordinates a tiny electric current powered by the batteries in your glasses. The lenses alternate between light and dark so that only one of your eyes is able to see the images on screen at once. Because your 3D TV is synchronised to your glasses the correct images needed are seen only by the clear lens. The images then alternate between your left eye and right eye perspective many times a second. The result is magical three dimensional viewing.
Note. As all 3D TV manufacturers have their own signal standard in which to communicate to their own 3D TV glasses, you need to marry up makes of 3D TV’s with same makes of 3D TV Glasses. A universal solution is still being sought

One of the very few companies who produce universal 3DTV Glasses that work between different brands of 3DTV are XpanD. last year XpanD X103 active universal 3DTV Glasses were released and are extremely popular.
At CES 2011 in Las Vegas, XpanD introduced there latest edition to their range the new “YOUniversal” 3D Glasses. These stylish active shutter glasses designed by Gigodesign studio, not only operate across all top brands of 3DTV (with support for IR, Bluetooth, Radio Frequency and DLP Link formats) but are capable of adjustment of their 3D parameters tuned to the individual wearer. This means that XpanD YOUniversal glasses can be optimised to individual differences in facial struture and vision characteristics, to reduce errors like crosstalk and ghosting when viewing 3D content.
Initially, the Universal 3D Shutter Glasses will require an app on your Google android or Apple iphone to access the personal tuning functionality.
